A Review of the Best Kitchen Cabinet Handle Trends of 2022

A Review of the Best Kitchen Cabinet Handle Trends of 2022

Trends in kitchen design are always evolving and 2022 is certainly no exception. Why are interior designers so excited about this year? Well, there are several new products as well as reboots of perennial favourites that are making a big splash. We feel it’s important to study changes in the industry and have frequent conversations with manufacturers from around the globe. We know it can be difficult to keep up with the rapid shifts in the design world. To help you stay in step with what’s happening, we’ve prepared an overview of the biggest trends. This is in no way a conclusive list, but rather a closer look at the top developments of the moment.

Thinking Vertically

Vertical lines are a strong trend in 2022. This is a dramatic shift from a space that was once largely dominated by horizontal hardware. The upright orientation offers a clean, minimalist appearance. This style also mimics the hardware on kitchen appliances like the refrigerator. While this may sound like a subtle change, it makes a big impact on the overall design of space. In terms of functionality, vertical handles are very visible, comfortable to grip, and easy to open.

Go Long

Longer handles are becoming more popular. And by long, we mean 600-1200mm in length! Pair this with a slim handle and you have a smart-looking space with modern appeal. For those who want to take their design to the extreme, some handles can be extended even further with a connecting piece. This gives designers fantastic flexibility and the potential to make a big statement. Practically speaking, these also offer users a unique benefit. You can grab just about anywhere to open the drawer or cabinet. Sometimes these little details make a big difference in daily practice.

Knurled Stays Strong

The knurled style remains quite a sought-after look. Add visible screws for an industrial feel. Examples of this can be found in our Fade® and Swell® collections. With sleek craftsmanship and a linear knurled style, they make a bold statement without dominating the room. The linear aspects of the design draw the eye in with a nod to on-trend patterns captivating the world. And while they certainly will elevate the design appeal of your space, they feel great in your hand as well. When it comes to big design, it’s essential to focus on the little things. Knurled hardware offers a chance to add visual impact to a kitchen while advancing the conveniences of form.

Warm Tones of Wood

Timber products are making a huge comeback. Hardware made from oak and walnut is selling very well in 2022. This is not the first time they’ve been well-received, but the trend is returning in a big way now. Part of this may be a shift from a colder more industrial look to that of a warmer quality. There are several options in terms of colour including blonde and black. The styles include not just handles, but some gorgeous knobs as well. For added durability, these items are lacquered with a protective coating. They are indeed strong and won’t break with normal use. Having said that, they are still a natural product and should be handled accordingly. For example, timber wouldn’t be a great choice for an outdoor space.

Brighten Things Up

There are more requests for white handles than ever before. Not only are they versatile enough to match most spaces, but they also brighten up the room. For those with dark cabinetry, they will stand out and make a visible impact. Alternatively, they’ll blend in with light cabinets for a more subtle look. Don’t be fooled into thinking that white is a limiting factor. There are all kinds of finishes within this colour including textured, matt, glossy surfaces. This kind of design flexibility makes white an excellent quality finish, and one that a growing number of homeowners are keen to explore.

A New Kind of Chrome

We know, chrome’s appeal has seriously waned over the last several years. Part of the challenge was the cold, sterile appearance of the handles. They almost had a bluish tone that was more industrial than inviting. For those looking to create a traditional type of space, this usually eliminated chrome as an option. Fast forward to 2022, and thanks to a new process in manufacturing, the colour of the finish is now warmer. Look at some of these updated items before ruling them out. You may be pleasantly surprised by the design possibilities they present.

Better for the Planet

There has been a definitive shift in how handles are made. The overarching goal is to lower the carbon footprint. For example, there are new plastic ranges of handles that are made from recycled plastics and fishnets. This collective push to reduce the environmental impact of design products is beneficial for all involved. Not only is it better for the planet, but some truly unique items are now available. We believe this is only the beginning of a very big trend. As more people become aware of the environmental impact of plastic, there will be a continued push for innovative ways to reuse and recycle.
