The Problem with Generic Sink Taps, and How to Choose one that Inspires (A Comparison Guide)

The Problem with Generic Sink Taps, and How to Choose one that Inspires (A Comparison Guide)

When searching for a new kitchen tap, you’ll likely find an array of generic one-size-fits-all models. These are usually reasonably functional, but seriously lacking in any sense of individuality, or style. If you’re renting a flat, or just need a quick solution for the laundry area, these are adequate.

Yet, at Archant, we truly believe that great design can inspire the soul and infuse a space with vibrant energy.

We know it’s “just a tap” but considering how often it’s used and its prominent position in the kitchen, it makes sense to think outside of the box. There are all kinds of sink taps that can increase the functionality and aesthetic appeal of your kitchen.

You may be surprised to see the various benefits some of these items offer. Our homes reflect our creative spirit, and the kitchen is certainly no exception. Let’s look at some of the main considerations for choosing your next tap.

1) The Elegance of a Classic Tap

When you’re looking for simple elegance that’s understated but memorable, a classic tap is a smart choice. These are designed to work well for both modern and traditional spaces and come in a variety of colours and finishes to best match your existing appliances and décor.

Some of our homeowners find chrome to be a good fit, while others love the edgy appeal of matte black, and gunmetal. For a warmer quality, there are also some beautiful copper finishes that add a pop of brilliance to the area.

If you’ve used similar rustic cabinet hardware and fittings, this ties it all together very well. It’s these little design details that interior designers have come to rely on for adding impact.

In the classic range, you’ll find a great deal of variety with regard to functionality. Some offer the ability to swivel, while others are fixed higher above the sink. Several of our classic taps also come with a pull-out spray option. These are anything but the plain taps you’ll find in hardware stores.

2) Unique Style of a Gooseneck Tap

As the name implies, these curved taps bend with a distinctive look of the bird’s neck. Its high arched quality makes a big impression in terms of style, but it’s also quite useful as well. For starters, its regal height keeps it from blocking access to the sink.

The benefit of course is that you can wash deep pots and large pans without wrestling with the position of the tap. This provides real convenience for families in New Zealand with busy kitchens that require an efficient clean-up process.

Archant offers a wide variety of Gooseneck taps to suit all types of kitchen styles. Beyond the sophisticated look, it’s important to know how your tap was made.

Our collection combines high-quality components and materials with superior craftsmanship to produce crisp, cutting-edge designs that are not only beautiful but built to last

Some of the models even feature a pull-out spout for added flexibility. The Uno Gooseneck, for example, has a pull-out tap with dual functionality. This includes a button to switch from a normal stream to a spray.

3) Sharp Style of the L Shape Tap

Another popular option for modern kitchens is the unique linear design of the L Shape tap.  These striking models lend themselves to the sleek, minimalist style that many homeowners desire. They look gorgeous and come in all types of colours and variations.

Some take on an artistic appearance with their definitive edges and hard lines. Take for example the memorable Ion model in matt black. It’s slender in build, but strong and durable with a 5-year warranty.

L shaped taps are another way to mirror the existing lines in your space, or to add contrast against softer features and colour palettes. With the clever design, the tap also sits well out of the way of anything below it. With more room to work, you maximise the existing bowl space.

When paired with the new line of Robiq reversible sinks, you will enjoy a convenient workflow that’s second to none. This unique combination of form and function makes the L Shape a much sought-after choice for New Zealand homeowners.

4) Conveniences of a Flex Spout

We understand that all these different types of taps can make it hard to choose the right model for your kitchen. Yet, the last style we want to share with you today is definitely worth looking into. It’s called a Flex Spout, and its main benefit is in its manoeuvrability. It looks quite similar to many of the options noted above but can offer more freedom with cleaning up.

Flex spouts can be extended from their initial position and angled in any direction to wash the dishes or clean the sink itself. From the largest, most awkward shaped pans and trays to the corners of the bowl, it’s flexible enough to get the job done. Afterwards, it recedes back into the static part of the tap to take on a more traditional appearance.

The modern kitchen is a busy workspace, demanding tapware of the highest calibre and capacity. Flex spout models like the Heritage Opal chrome pull-out excel at both, featuring high-quality materials with meticulous workmanship.

We are Committed to Eco-Friendly Design

Many of the clients we talk with at Archant are interested in reducing their carbon footprint. We are totally on board with this important consideration and list the WELS rating for all the taps in our collection. WELS stands for the “Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Scheme”. To find out how efficient the tap is, check the specifications tab on the item you’re interested in.
